What is responsive design, and why do I need it?

How much does it cost to design a web site?

The cost depends on a number of factors: 

  • Number of pages on the site
  • Type of website, either static or dynamic
  • Programming
  • Choice of Content Management System (custom or WordPress)
  • Online marketing

A web site without any high-level programming or search engine optimization starts at $670 for a 1 – 5 page site (includes 1 year of hosting).

How can I view my web site design as it is in progress?

Web Design Kennesaw assigns an experienced Project Manager for communicating the development process. Upon the start of your project, you will have all updates communicated to you, as well as visuals sent to you via links on our test servers. You will see and approve all design and programming work, and have the ability to offer your feedback. 

All of our works-in-progress are protected by copyright laws, and we digitally watermark graphic images to monitor any unauthorized use. Once full payment is received, we will deliver your website through one of your selected venues, and you will then secure all ownership.

How many changes can I make to the web site once I view the first design template?

You can make as many changes as you wish on each round of revisions. We encourage clients to give plenty of feedback so that we can get the design template approved as soon as possible and sent for development. 

After the site is sent into development, there is often more time needed than allotted to make major design changes, so we request that you be completely sure about the layout before proceeding into the development stage.

Domain Names

I have a domain that isn’t hosted by Web Design Kennesaw, what do I need to do?

We can set up your domain to host with us. Our price for hosting varies depending on your site and space requirements. Contact us for more specific information, where we can custom tailor a plan for you.

Should I buy a .com or a .org for my website?

If you are a business, it is a good idea to buy a .com that matches your business name, as this is what people will expect when they type it into a web browser. A .com will rank slightly higher for web searches. However, if you don’t have a registered business name, or are registered as an organization, it is recommended that you purchase a .org, but there is no reason you can’t buy a .com domain name as well.

Do I have to buy a domain name first or can Web Design Kennesaw handle it for me?

Web Design Kennesaw can buy a domain name on your behalf, as long as the name you want is available. Once you have decided on a domain name you should buy it as soon as possible, as domains name can be purchased by someone else while you are waiting, and are renewed on an annual basis.

I already have a domain name. If Web Design Kennesaw builds me a site will it work with my domain name?

Yes, you will go into your domain registrar’s control panel and simply set the name servers for your domain to Web Design Kennesaw’ name servers. We can tell you exactly what you will need to do once we are close to launching your site.

Hosting

What is shared (also known as “virtual”) web hosting?

Shared (or “virtual”) hosting means that your website resides on a server that is simultaneously hosting other sites. Your site will be allocated a set amount of disk space and data. Note that although the server is being shared by other sites, your site’s files are protected and secure at all times, and unable to be accessed by the server’s other users.

What service level guarantee is provided?

Web Design Kennesaw operates all servers to ensure the maximum uptime possible. From time to time (typically 3-4 times per year) the servers will need to be taken offline to perform system and hardware upgrades. Such upgrades are performed at time of low usage, usually overnight. 

There are safeguards in place to assist maintain a high level of uptime, RAID drive arrays, redundant power sources, and a myriad of other precautions.

Uptime for our web servers is currently > 99%.

What security measures are in place to protect my website?

Hacking of web-servers is a very real risk on the Internet. We monitor our servers and continuously log attempts to exploit vulnerabilities in common web-servers.
Web Design Kennesaw runs on Linux based systems, which have a substantially lower risk of being compromised than Windows based servers.
All equipment is stored in a secure data center which incorporates 24 monitoring and alarm system.
The servers are configured to minimize the risk of hacking by running all programs as individual user accounts, with only the required privileges to perform the specific function of that program.

I keep on receiving an email saying I have exceeded my quota

In your hosting package you are allocated a set bandwidth and disk space for all your websites activities. 

Disk space

This the disk space used by your website, as well as the email account(s).

Bandwidth

This is a measure of your website traffic and email usage
If you have exceeded this, you may need to clear space by deleting emails off the server or contact us and we are happy to recommend a better plan to suit your usage.

How much support do you provide?

When you purchase a domain or hosting we provide you with free support. We are available around the clock, most commonly by email, and we try to answer back as soon as possible. In most cases, we have already fixed the issues before contacting you, so do not worry if we don’t answer right away! 

Most questions are answered right here on site, so you can find information quickly without the need to contact us.

With each website project, we offer six months of free tech support to fix any glitches or bugs that are a result of programming error. After the free period, we charge at our normal hourly rate.
When it comes to email problems, many errors can occur between your email program, be it Microsoft Outlook or Thunderbird etc, your ISP and our server. Before contacting us, please read through your email client’s help guide.

When contacting support please include as much detail as you can provide, including your domain name, the exact nature of the problem and any relevant passwords we may need to investigate the issue for you.

Logo Design & Branding

What questions should I be asking myself when thinking about a logo design?

  • What do I want my logo to represent?

Do I own the copyright of the design work web Design Kennesaw does for me?

All copyrights are transferred over to the you upon receipt of full payment. To continue to provide competitive rates, we entrust the client with the responsibility to verify that both the artwork requested, and any original designs given to Web Design Kennesaw will not infringe upon any statutory copyright.

How will I receive my logo once it is done?

Upon approval of logo or image design received by Web Design Kennesaw, you shall have the option of receiving your images via e-mail attachment, zip file, or zip file link. We will send you the Logo in the software 4 file formats, including .AI or PDF file that can be opened up on any computer. 

Transfer of full copyright will occur after receipt and final payment clears.

What if I decide to cancel a design job?

For design work, the client shall only be billed for the hours worked. The exception to this is a logo project (which offer fixed rates), whereas should in the event that you cancel the project after completion, a cancellation fee of 50% of the remainder due will be administered.

General Billing

What is your payment plan?

For jobs with a quote of under $500, a full payment representing the amount of the total fee is required upon signing a work agreement. 

For projects with a quote of over $500, an initial payment representing 50% of the total fee is required upon signing a work agreement. The remainder fee is due upon completion of the job.

What do you charge for design work?

At Web Design Kennesaw, our projects are normally quoted out on a case-by-case basis, so that we can accommodate a variety of clients and budgets. All of our work is custom designed for each client, so there is no one size fits all package. We can adjust to whatever your needs are.

Can you do rush jobs?

Web Design Kennesaw may accept rush jobs at an increase of 20%-100% increase of our standard fee, determined by the schedule and complexity of the job, as well as developer availability.

Search engine optimization

Why don’t you offer any guarantees?

We do not guarantee placement unless you are participating in a pay-for-placement search engine program. 

Despite what other online marketing companies claim, no one can guarantee top search engine placement because there is a 3rd party who has all of the control: the search engines themselves. What we can guarantee, is that we will help you with keyword selection, meta-tag and other web copywriting, submission, and optimal site design architectures for the search engines, as well as other routes proven to help.
